So, recently a company in Japan has created “artificial meteors”, to resemble shooting stars. This project is aimed to make “shooting stars on demand” a possibility. While this is incredibly interesting scientifically, regarding how they keep them in orbit and what they’re made out of in order to be able to see them from Earth is very intriguing however who knows what kind of effect this could have in space? Space debris is very definitely prevalent, from abandoned rockets or satellites to anything that was in collision in our orbit. While yes, this is a very beautiful idea, especially for those in cities that don’t have proper star view due to light pollution it is still something that could be dangerous in the future, especially if we aren’t actually sure what they’re made out of. This leads me to a point questioning if, in the future, there will be a ban on what can or cannot enter space. Or if only certain people will be allowed to access space, considering this is a private group unrelated to the Japanese government. A lot of this science just seems like untested territories and for now, that’s all fine. However if in the future something goes wrong with these simulated showers that could completely change the precedent for space use, because that obviously isn’t governed today. Just knowing that in the next 50 years our world will need to adjust to technologies very heavily dealing with space is a bit overwhelming. When looking at China, just this week they planted the first seeds on the moon. That kind of technology is extremely impressive and means that eventually space travel will be more than something we hear about every now and then, and that of course with all these new sciences come new threats and new rules that should, but may not, be followed.
