Simulation Review-Caitlyn Retaleato

The role I played in the simulation was for sure a more passive one. I found myself doing a lot of the behind the scene work and solving logistical problems. I feel like every delegation needed someone who was level-headed and able to connect and help solve problems with the other delegations. I think I was that key member for our team. I felt pretty prepared considering our situation. Since the conflict was made up and the some of the delegations as well and everyone got the same background material I felt that everyone had the same prior knowledge and I did not feel underprepared. I think we were able to accomplish what we wanted because we found part of a resolution that benefited our delegation while also accommodating to the needs of other delegations. I really enjoyed this simulation because of everyone’s enthusiasm to solve the issue at hand and also I really enjoyed how much everyone participated. The one thing I would say I personally struggled with is maybe speaking in front of everybody. For the most part my delegation had one of two people who assumed that role but I still felt there was a responsibility I did not fulfill. A thing that could be changed is maybe a little more structure and guidance for the topic. The only criticism I had which could be blamed on the group as a whole is not using our limited time efficiently. We only had a set amount of time and we did not get to go over everything that was necessary when manufacturing a resolution. I learned that there is definitely more jobs to a delegation than the person speaking and that a lot goes into the behind the scenes of making a resolution. Also that committees are so important in finding compromises for different bodies.
