China crossing into Taiwan airspace was ‘completely inappropriate,’ says State Department official

“Absolutely it concerns us” said R. Clarke Cooper, assistant secretary for political-military affairs at the U.S. Department of State. “It was completely inappropriate of China to take such an aggressive act,” Cooper added.

On Monday, Chinese jets crossed an unofficial middle line in the Taiwan Strait, just a day after Chinese fighters and bombers flew around the island.

China’s People’s Liberation Army said on Monday that the drills were aimed at improving combat capabilities.

China claims self-ruled Taiwan as its territory that must one day be reunited with the mainland and Beijing has never renounced the use of force to take Taiwan by force.
