Protesters gather in Bangkok, Thailand, to demand reform from Thai King, Maha Vajiralongkorn. As things are stirring up in Thailand over the “dictatorship” ruling of the King, Protesters have taken to marching through Bangkok in hopes to reform the monarchy system, remove the Prime Minister, and draft a new constitution. The protesters also hope to create a democracy form of government so the people can have a voice. With the King not currently being in Thailand, the people feel like he shouldn’t have control over them if he’s not there to help with the country’s problems.
With thousands of people gathering in Bangkok to protest for reform of the government system they are putting Covid-19 to the side of them and hoping for change as they have all long endured under the ruling of a unitary government system.
Since 1932 Thailand has been under control of a Prime Minister. As it is illegal to criticize the monarchy, the protestors took a chance in hopes to make a change for the people of Thailand to come. The police did not use any violence against the protest group and it was solemnly up to them to arrest the people who spoke out against the monarchy system.
If the country were to change to a democracy form of government this would have a long lasting effect for Thailand. This would allow them to trade with more countries which would grow globalization within the country, it would give people a say in the government, and it would give the citizens of Thailand rights the government couldn’t take away.
The Prime Minister spoke out to the protestors in hopes to calm the rally by saying the people would cause a economic destruction if the coronavirus were to spread through them at the gatherings.
With Thailand’s Demographic Transition Model being in stage 4, their population is still on the up climb of the model and with that the people should have some say on what happens in the country. With the people having zero say in the government system, the people can not make rights that will benefit them, they are solemnly leaving it up to the government to make the decisions for them and with the people speaking out against the government they could be arrested and placed into jail for a minimum of 15 years. Nevertheless, with no one speaking out it, would not bring change. With hopes to make reforms to the government system, protestors will take to the streets of Bangkok, on October 14.
