The belt and road initiative; a development strategy to strengthen China’s connectivity with the world. In this case China is using a new development pattern based off the belt and road initiative, in cooperation with Sri Lanka, UAE, Algeria, and Serbia. China claims their new plan will create a broader market for countries in South Asia, West Asia and North Africa, and Central and Eastern Europe. For the four countries working with China, they claim the project will emphasize on domestic, economic, and social development through tangible benefits to their people. A Chinese official even introduced “dual circulation,” a new concept that makes the domestic market the mainstay, and allows domestic and foreign markets to boost each other.
This is a very complex idea, and I find it interesting that China is so cooperative and including for being a communist party, that relies heavily on exportation of foreign goods. I believe this is economically smart for China because they are introducing themselves to new points of interest, especially in europe and africa. The concept of dual circulation is especially unique in the way that it allows foreign and domestic markets to work together. This idea may also economically and socially construct most of the countries along the belt road, which leads to better relationships with China.
This plan is International Relations put into a picture, it holds the core aspects of what it means for countries to interact with each other. You have China, an economic super power that dominates the world in exports, forming what almost seems to be an Economic IGO with Sri Lanka, UAE, Algeria and Serbia. Theoretically this cultural interaction with all of the countries along the belt road could open them up to different cultures, which could be a good or bad thing. But in the end it is refreshing to see countries attempting to help each other so everyone wins, even if those countries just have their own interests at heart.
