China has stepped up its military presence near the Taiwan strait in response to external interference by pro-independence forces in Taiwan. the chinese defence minister issued a warning to Taiwan that if it continues to strive for its independence, “taiwan independence means war.” Taiwan military says that they see multiple chinese airplanes fly by the border every day and that China is also parking 15 aircraft carriers outside of taiwan. observers say that China is trying to warn America to stay out of the rising tensions.

This is very big because this could start a major war in the area. Taiwan and China have always been at odds because Taiwan is recognised as a country but not by China making them not there own country. If Taiwan takes military action and starts a war they will drag in their allies making it a larger fight because Taiwan alone can not defend against the whole of China.

This relates to class because if you view this from a realist perspective you will see that China will make no negotiations and if things escalate they will quickly use military force to get what they want.
