A UN panel has expressed concern about proposed amendments to Japan’s immigration law, claiming that they do not go far enough to protect international migrants’ human rights. The revision was drafted by the Japanese government in response to an increase in the number of illegal foreigners held at government facilities after resisting deportation. If deportees meet such criteria, such as not being deemed a flight risk, the draft will allow them to remain with family or supporters. The Working Group on Arbitrary Detention of the United Nations Human Rights Council, among others, has expressed concern that involuntary detentions would continue. They say that the new measure can only be used under extraordinary circumstances and that it will work at the state level. They point out that the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which Japan has ratified, states that everyone has the right to physical freedom, which can only be taken away in compliance with legal procedures. Others also requested the Japanese government to discuss their issues, including the working group. The method of detaining migrants without charge is one of them. These include the practice of detaining migrants without judicial review, limitless detention periods and the impact on the lives of the children of those held in detention. The Japanese activists are demanding that the government provide an explanation of the draft revision it’s trying to push through the Diet.

Many people think of Japan as a perfect country where crime rates are extremely low and people can live in peace, but many people think this because Japan has done a good job at covering up some of the human rights violations they have in place. This new immigration law that Japan as proposed concern many people because Japan is trying to limit the rights that an international migrant has in the country.

This new proposal for the Japanese immigration law could be a violation of human rights because Japan says that they have the right to take away your rights at any given time.
