This article offers insight into an accusation made by a Chinese diplomat against US interference within the eastern Asia realm. Diplomat Wang Yi gave this accusation in response to President Biden’s alleged desire to create an organization similar to NATO in the eastern Asian realm. Wang details how this organization would and already has created instability in the region that is dominated by mainly Chinese powers. Wang also further details how US involvement has already caused issues in the region citing the Australian nuclear submarine deal as a point of contention. Other issues brought up are those of the relations between North Korea and the US and how China believes the US has soured relations under the Biden administration. However, Wang failed to mention how China’s recent moves to gain control of the South China sea have angered other countries in the region. In this speech, Wang essentially is telling the US to back off because that part of the world is theirs. They also essentially state that US involvement in the eastern pacific is bad for the expansion of Chinese influence. In more global terms the accusations show that China recognizes that NATO has been incredibly successful in halting the advance of Russian influence in Europe. In recognizing this China is attempting to halt an organization similar to NATO from being created to combat their influence. This is important because without the support of the US the rest of the “quad nations” (US, India, Japan, Australia) will have a far more difficult time halting Chinese influence and expansion further into the South China sea. While China continues to reprimand the expansion of US influence as they encroach further onto the eastern Asian realm their ability to halt this expansion is limited. Due to this, it is unlikely that China will be able to fully halt the creation of an organization similar to NATO in the eastern Pacific. However, China will likely be able to influence the countries that join, especially those that are in close proximity to China, North Korea, and Taiwan being the main countries that they would have influence over.
