Block 6
In the past few weeks China has been flying aircraft into U.S airspace and in general making small scale annoyances in the U.S. This is likely as a response of the US-Philippines military deal occurring prior to the balloon and other aircraft sightings and downings. These small retailiations from China are getting increasingly more dangerous as they continue to fly un-accounted for aircraft around the U.S possibly in the future disrupting air traffic, and causing general chores for the U.S government and military.
As of now the U.S has shot down several unmanned aircraft sent by China, and the Philippines have been harassed in the water for the grant given to the U.S to build new military bases. The problem of course being the violation of international law by the Chinese and the uncertainty as to what is in the current and next balloon to come. So far the aircraft have not had any hazardous after effects, but there is no telling when one of the aircraft detonates as a result of being shot at, and causes harm or damage to the U.S public as a result of possibly intentional or unintentional harm caused by the downing of the aircraft. The spying part of the aircraft of course isn’t a real problem for U.S National Security, but the U.S public is being stirred up and turned to protest against the government for letting the U.S be spied on, even though the balloons are not doing much for the Chinese and even might be blocking satellite views of the places it has flown over. That of course, likely not being put together by the majority of the U.S citizens who are distraught by the actions of the Chinese.
Connecting this article to class, this is obviously retaliation of the significant geopolitical gains the U.S acquired in the Philippines just a few weeks ago. The anger from China, proof of the increasing death-grip the U.S and allies has acquired geo politically and militarily to continue to box in China. The U.S’s response to these balloons has been not direct, as the U.S government knows there is no real effort behind the balloons, but obviously, realizes the need to continue to down the balloons and continue to box in and limit Chinas possibilities to be successful economically, and militarily in the case of war. The U.S and allied bases, of course only to block Chinese military and trade if war is to come, this again, signalling China has intentions of attacking a nation, likely most immediately Taiwan in the near future.
