The ongoing war in Ukraine with Russia has had Russia strengthen it’s diplomatic ties with the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea (DPRK). Russia has been working with North Korea in order to fund part of the war as it is using North Korea to borrow money through the international banking system. With this happening the US has imposed sanctions on top of the many sanctions already placed on Russian banks to prevent that money to go to unlaw weapons of mass destruction. The US says that the financial cooperation between Russia and North Korea is a threat to international security and the global financial system. The US put sanctions on North Korea and Russia as Kim Jong Un met with Russian security officials to deepen strategic ties with each other. North Korea has also been supplying Russia with rockets and missiles during the war.
North Korea’s horrible relations with the US and many other countries makes North Korea turn it’s head to Russia, a very close ally with North Korea. The North Korean’s fueling the war in Ukraine present a challenge in the region as the United States is fueling Ukraines war while North Korea is fueling Russia. Due to North Korea borrowing money from international banks, money that could of came from countries like Japan or the US could be lended to North Korea. North Korea builds missiles and rockets to be used against US and other democratic nations that could be devastating in the near future if North Korea is able to build a large arsenal along with it’s current aggression.
The current sanctions on both Nations could be resolved if Russia were to back out of Ukraine and end the war which currently is very unlikely, as the war continues to rage on till this day. The sanction on North Korea could be removed if North Korea were to agree to stop funding Russia’s war as the United States get’s dragged into this as it helps fund Ukraines defense with billions of dollars worth of war equipment. An agree could come that North Korea would stop funding Russia and be able to borrow money again and use it for it’s own nation to fund other things such an infrastructure and the well being of the people. With North Korea fueling the war, NATO is brought in along side the US, NATO an military IGO (Inter-governmental Organization) to fund the war on Ukraines behalf. North Korea is also an Nation State as most of the people that live inside the country are North Korean and they have a really homogenous population. And Russia is a Multi State Nation as Russians are spread out over many sovereign states with majorities in some areas and minorities in others.
