On October 16, 2014 AP News reported on the 23rd meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization(SCO), founded by China and Russia, that happened in Pakistan’s capital. The meeting consisted of people like Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and the prime ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Mongolia were in attendance. According to a Russian News outlast, Tass, Mikhail was openly speaking about how Moscow and Beijing will be, “increasing the volume of mutual trade and launching joint investment projects,” even with the recent pressure from external factors. He also mentioned they will be “creating new international transport corridor … and strengthening food security in Russia and China.” Country representatives in the SCO called for strengthening security, trade, health, minimizing the effects of climate change, and promoting people to people contract. China is also strengthening relations with Pakistan. They have started to work together on building better roadways, railroads, and electronic infrastructure.

These events have shown a growth in the relationships between Russia, China, and Pakistan. These regions now have a higher chance of growing in economic, technological, and military power. In the coming months there will probably be increasing efforts in investments that support all sides. Efforts to fix desecration in some areas will speed up due to increased funding and collaboration. There is also the possibility of outside reaction, with European countries disagreeing with the recent predicaments. With more collaboration and cooperation within different groups there are the chances that conflicts can either increase or decrease between the two groups.

All parties seem very happy about the agreements made in the recent SCO meeting. However when looking at Pakistan and China’s relationship it is difficult to tell how much China is getting out of the “friendship.” There comes the question of how long before China begins to feel like they aren’t getting enough in return from Pakistan. China is funding many projects in Pakistan which is expensive. Russia’ and China seem to be in a steady role in growing their alliance. They are entering more trade agreements and working closely with each other’s militaries.

In many class discussions there has been talk of the idea of reciprocity and mutual benefit. In this article there are many examples of it. Some are increasing trade and helping fund building roads. These are all good but there is always the chance one nation involved will start to feel neglected or they are giving too much. The evidence of this is Great Britain leaving the EU. Different type have power have also been discussed. Within the article there is evidence of nations gaining military, economical, and technological power which can all be “hard” forms of power.
