This article is about how Russia, China and India are becoming more confident and the western powers seem to be drifting and are being seen as less coherent internationally. The article also goes over a lot of reasons why Russia, China and India could all be siding together, both government and civic contribution in these countries is more focused on their national priorities. So those three countries are trying to act on any opportunities they can find and act now while the West is on the defensive. The article talks a lot about how the global balance is shifting slowly and moving away from western dominance.

I think that Russia, China and India are going on the defensive because western countries are facing international issues right now, Like political polarization, less unity in foreign policy and some economic problems. While that’s been happening in the West Russia, China and India have built up more stable control internally which will allow them to play this out long-term. Some possible lasting impacts from this could be a shift in Global norms, security and trade towards ones that might be more beneficial to Russia, China and India. Also if this trend continues we could see more countries and nations with multiple centers of power rather than just one dominant West.

I think that the stakeholders in Russia, China and India like their government are likely to use this opportunity with the power shift to push their own agendas like, territorial claims and trade. The stakeholders in the western countries could feel threatened and try to re-assert their dominance and leadership, or they could try and counterbalance Russia, China and India’s alliance by seeking out new alliances for themselves. The smaller states in East Asia and Oceania are probably going to feel like their stuck between the influences in that region and try to align with whichever power offers the most benefits or protection.

This connects back to class through concepts of alliances and a balance of power between the three of them. Russia, China and India are not actually in a formal alliance. They are in a very loose partnership of sorts. It’s driven by their shared economic goals and they all want to challenge the West’s global dominance. There is still tension between India and China despite any partnership. There’s also a balance of power between them, since China is the central power in East Asia, Russia and India have a need to cooperate with Beijing. So they’re all using each other and trying to balance against China’s influence.
