Vietnam is intensifying its global engagement through a series of high-level diplomatic missions that reflect a strategic shift toward proactive, equitable, and mutually beneficial cooperation. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s recent visits to Kuwait, Algeria, and South Africa, along with his participation in the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, resulted in significant diplomatic gains, most notably the elevation of all three bilateral relationships to Strategic Partnerships. These upgraded ties not only mark Vietnam’s first strategic partners in the Middle East and Africa but also underscore the country’s growing influence among Global South nations. At the G20 Summit, the Prime Minister emphasized solidarity, sustainable development, and fair global governance in an era of digital and green transformation, earning positive international recognition.

Vietnam’s new partnerships focus heavily on energy, trade, investment, agriculture, and technology transfer. Cooperation agreements ranged from oil and gas development with Kuwait to mining, transport, and agricultural collaboration with Algeria, as well as renewable energy and market-access expansion with South Africa. Domestically, Vietnam continues deepening economic ties with Europe, reaffirming its commitment to regulatory transparency and a stable investment environment. Meanwhile, record exports to the United States demonstrate Vietnam’s strengthening role in global supply chains. Together, these developments reinforce Vietnam’s long-term aspirations for sustainable growth, international integration, and global partnership building.

I think Vietnam should keep building on their message of “proactive, equitable, and mutually beneficial cooperation” by increasing new agreements across energy, trade, and technology. Partners in the Middle East and Africa can turn their diplomatic commitments into solid projects, especially in green energy, rare earth development, and infrastructure. G20 members should be the most welcoming towards Vietnam’s reform proposals by strengthening their support for sustainable growth and fair trade frameworks. International investors, particularly from ASEAN and the EU, can capitalize on the stable, future focused approach of Vietnam. It is going to help in the long run by expanding investments in manufacturing, logistics, and clean energy sectors.

This connects to the class directly because of a common theme of shared identity, they overlap their common norms and values making Vietnam strengthen their ties with other countries. It also connects to the Commercial Liberal Theory, indicating that if they keep a bit of space, they will have a consistent peace. This benefits both sides making it a win-win situation. Shared values are values that are highly important to two or more countries, in this case, Vietnam and the Middle East have common goals they wish to reach so they are collaborating.
