East Asia is facing a tremendous amount of corruption, some countries with 71%. Cambodia is not excluded. After avoiding a civil war, thanks to the international community pooling money into a democratic system, they still have human rights issues. Many opposing parties to Hun Sen who has been controlling the country for 25 years have been shut down or had many burdens placed upon them. Now, the CNRP leader has been arrested and another has fled the country to avoid the corrupt court systems so she can be heard during the 2018 elections. Yet, all the prior international help may have led to this corrupt situation. Cambodia might have to fight it out in order to be what the people really want, because avoiding it the first time didn’t solve their problems.

Other problems in East Asia is the Islamic State who are dispersed globally are trying to liberate areas from their existing governments and are expected to submit to IS rule. Specifically in the Philippines, a hub for terrorists (even smuggling them in), they are distributing a video singling out the U.S. as an enemy and hyping themselves up. Although the IS has taken many hits not mentioned in the video, they still have the potential to gain members and power to inflict more terror in an already unstable region such as East Asia. The U.S. and Australia are working together to help these towns but they must focus more on rehabilitation and resettlement than military and funding.
