For the past half-century, we have watched china achieve massive economic growth and development in its economy and population. This growth has caused multiple environmental and social setbacks including it’s air and water pollution. For the first time in this period of economic growth however, we are beginning to see Chinese authorities take action to combat these environmental problems. This campaign against pollution could help to reduce the environmental damage but economists believe that this effort will slightly set back China’s economic development. Economists also believe that this setback on China’s economy will have an even greater effect economies around the world. I found this article particularly interesting because it seems to be a great step in the right direction for the Chinese government and will further aid their country in the long run despite the slight reduction in economic growth.
