China’s intervention in the Rohingya crisis

With now over a million Rohingya refugees seeking safety in Bangladesh, China has begun to put pressure on the two countries to come to a peaceful agreement and solution to the current problem. With China finally getting involved, the two countries have agreed to arrange different steps so that the “people” can return to their homeland. Whether Myanmar’s government will stick to this agreement is now the question. However, the returning of the Rohingya seems very unlikely. In the agreement, Myanmar failed to specify the Rohingya simply stating citizens, and we all know that the Rohingya are far from citizens in Myanmar. It seems like Myanmar made this agreement to satisfy the international community. The U.S. is finally getting involved, stating recently that they would be imposing sanctions and taking away military aide. However, our actions seem to little too late. With the Rohingya now seeking refuge in an overcrowded Bangladesh, their future is seeming more and more hopeless.
