There is no evidence that the death penalty has a unique deterrent effect on crime, no matter how shocking the method of execution is,&#8221; the group said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-also-read article-embed-tb-block article-embedded-card \">\n<div class=\"topic-label\">READ MORE<\/div>\n<h4><a class=\"article-embed-title\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/indepth\/features\/2014\/12\/heavy-hand-religious-police-aceh-2014122071758539966.html\">The heavy hand of religious police in Aceh<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<p>The human rights organisation called on the central Indonesian government to intervene, adding it should not only oppose the plan, but also put a moratorium on the death penalty throughout the world&#8217;s most populous Muslim nation.<\/p>\n<p>The provincial administration said it would conduct research this year to see if a majority of people in Aceh would support beheading.<\/p>\n<p>Aceh, located on the northern part of Sumatra island, is one of the most conservative regions in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/indonesia.html\">Indonesia<\/a>.
