He did not specify what the military had seen.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report published on the group&#8217;s website, North Korea has also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.38north.org\/2018\/05\/punggye051418\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">removed<\/a>some of the mining cart rails used to access the underground part of the site, which is based in the mountainous northern region of North Korea.<\/p>\n<p>But not all buildings have been demolished yet, the researchers concluded.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Other more substantial buildings around the facility remain intact, including the two largest buildings at the Command Center, and the Main Administrative Support Area,&#8221; the researchers wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Moreover, no tunnel entrances appear to have yet been permanently closed,&#8221; they added.<\/p>\n<h2>North Korea invites journalists<\/h2>\n<p>North Korea has said it will\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2018\/05\/north-korea-nuclear-test-site-dismantled-weeks-180512153522432.html\">completely dismantle the site<\/a>, including collapsing the tunnels and blocking the entrances sometime between May 23 and May 25.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Nuclear Weapon Institute and other concerned institutions are taking technical measures for dismantling the northern nuclear test ground &#8230; in order to ensure transparency of discontinuance of the nuclear test,&#8221; North Korean press agency KCNA said earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, North Korea\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/english.yonhapnews.co.kr\/northkorea\/2018\/05\/15\/0401000000AEN20180515008152315.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">invited<\/a>\u00a0eight South Korean journalists to witness that event, according to Yonhap news agency.<\/p>\n<p>Journalists from China, Russia, the United States and the United Kingdom will also attend the event.<\/p>\n<p>North Korean leader Kim Jong-un pledged to close the site during a landmark summit last month with South Korean President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/indepth\/features\/2017\/05\/moon-jae-south-korea-president-170509123525219.html\">Moon Jae-in<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to Kim&#8217;s meeting with Moon, the North Korean leader\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2018\/04\/north-korea-suspend-nuclear-missile-tests-180420221035354.html\">announced on\u00a0April 21<\/a>\u00a0that all nuclear and missile tests were to be suspended, saying the Punggye-ri site had &#8220;finished its mission&#8221; after completing its nuclear programme.<\/p>\n<p>But days later, the South China Morning Post newspaper\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/diplomacy-defence\/article\/2143171\/north-koreas-nuclear-test-site-has-collapsed-and-may-be-why-kim-jong-un\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0that the facility had collapsed, threatening an &#8220;unprecedented risk&#8221; of radioactive fallout.<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper said the Punggye-ri site, situated near Mount Mantap in northeastern North Korea, was &#8220;wrecked&#8221; beyond repair by a landslide.<\/p>\n<p>It suggested the incident &#8220;may&#8221; have been the reason for Kim&#8217;s announcement of a suspension in testing.<\/p>\n<p>Six nuclear tests &#8211; including North Korea&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2017\/09\/north-korea-confirms-sixth-nuclear-test-170903060221933.html\">most powerful test<\/a>\u00a0to date in September 2017 &#8211; have been carried out at the facility since\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2017\/09\/timeline-north-korea-nuclear-tests-170903061228305.html\">Pyongyang began\u00a0experiments<\/a>\u00a0in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>The closure comes shortly before\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2018\/05\/donald-trump-singapore-host-summit-kim-jong-180510144527473.html\">a planned meeting<\/a>\u00a0between Kim and\u00a0Trump\u00a0in\u00a0Singapore on June 12.<\/p>\n<p>It will mark the first summit between a sitting US president and a North Korean leader.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is expected to push North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons at the meeting in exchange for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2018\/02\/trump-announces-heaviest-north-korea-sanctions-180223210930230.html\">removal of\u00a0economic sanctions<\/a>\u00a0and US assistance in rebuilding Pyongyang&#8217;s ailing economy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/south-korea.html\">South Korea<\/a>\u00a0has\u00a0said\u00a0it hopes the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2018\/05\/donald-trump-singapore-host-summit-kim-jong-180510144527473.html\">summit will lead to<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, as well as permanent peace on the peninsula&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Last month,\u00a0Kim\u00a0and Moon\u00a0pledged to formally end the 1950s Korean War and pursue &#8220;complete denuclearisation&#8221;
