{"id":211,"date":"2016-10-28T03:48:54","date_gmt":"2016-10-28T03:48:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baileyonlineclassroom.com\/eastasiaandoceaniablog\/?p=211"},"modified":"2016-10-28T03:48:54","modified_gmt":"2016-10-28T03:48:54","slug":"duterte-voices-aversion-to-presence-of-foreign-troops-in-philippines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/baileyonlineclassroom.com\/eastasiaandoceaniablog\/2016\/10\/28\/duterte-voices-aversion-to-presence-of-foreign-troops-in-philippines\/","title":{"rendered":"Duterte voices aversion to presence of foreign troops in Philippines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) &#8212; Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte voiced aversion on Tuesday to the presence of foreign troops in the <a href=\"http:\/\/search.news.cn\/language\/search.jspa?id=en&amp;t1=0&amp;t=1&amp;ss=&amp;btn=0&amp;ct=Japan&amp;n1=Philippines&amp;np=content\">Philippines<\/a>, saying the country&#8217;s constitution dictates that the Philippines pursue an independent foreign policy.<\/p>\n<p>At the news conference before departing for Tokyo where he is making a three-day visit, Duterte said his country does not have to &#8220;dovetail what the policies of other countries are especially in the matter of stationing of military troops&#8221; in the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>The Philippines has a defense treaty with the <a href=\"http:\/\/search.news.cn\/language\/search.jspa?id=en&amp;t1=0&amp;t=1&amp;ss=&amp;btn=0&amp;ct=Syria&amp;n1=United+States&amp;np=content\">United States<\/a> and defense agreements that allow U.S. troops to conduct joint exercises with Philippine troops.
