I’m not positive whether this actual alliance is relatively new or not, but the article did state that these countries are scheduled to hold a joint military drill. The three countries have supposedly “code-named” the drill “Peace and Friendship 2018”. Now I know that in international relations, especially, we are not supposed to jump to conclusions without the facts and evidence. However this name reminds me of something Mr. Bailey lectured about in class one time. He stated that sometimes you can tell the government type of a country by simply reading out their full name. For example, France’s offical name is the Republic of France. By name, it is implied that that country is democratic and usually elects people for government positions and has some form of a constitution to govern by. Athough some countries give off some red flag signs with their offical state names such as The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea or the People’s Republic of China. These names give off red flags because it seems a little suspicious that a county would try to choose a name that is almost agressively trying to come off as democratic. If a counrty is truly democratic, it shouldn’t worry too much about the name sounding democratic as well. This red flag is usually the first sign that the counrty is very far from being democratic. Anyway, my point is that the previously mentioned lecture given in class reminded me of the code-name this certain alliance is calling their joint military drill. The “Peace and Friendship 2018” drill. It sounds to me that these countries involved in this military drill are trying to make this sound much more “peaceful” and “friendly” than it actually is. The countries are of course claiming that this military drill is merely for security and is not aimed at any specific country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
One article I read this week that caught my attention was an article about the new alliance of Thailand, Malaysia, and China.
