The government had said that they were doing all they could to protect them, and that there was no real genocide going on, but this was all a lie. Since last august, nearly 700,000 Rohingyan Muslims had fled the country to neighboring Bangladesh, in attempt to escape the military of Myanmar. The country of Myanmar, which is prodominalty Buddhist, had been accused of killing, raping, and burning the villages of the Rohingyan Muslim minorities.

Now finally after a UN reporter had gone to the country to look into the actual event has confirmed the suspicion of the ongoing genocide has the government actually started to do something about it. The only reason for this though is the outside pressure of the UN, and not wanting any international entitites getting involved and damaging their country even more. However, even after they had “guaranteed” the safe return of the Rohingyans that fled to Bangladesh, those refugees refused to return home due to fear that when they return they will not be safe. At the camp in Bangladesh nearly 1000 of the refugees were chanting “We won’t go back!”

This makes you think how hard is Myanmar really trying to fix their broken country. If they really wanted them back and to put their country back together they would actually make an attempt to guarantee their safety, rather than just saying that they did. But at the same time it is going to be hard to get them to come back. They had just been through something where everyone they know that was the same religion as them were at danger of being raped or killed, and now only a year later they are supposed to feel safe, after 600,000 people had to flee the country for their safety? Not likely that this situation will be solved for quiet some time.

Just a couple of days ago Myanmar was in the stages of preparing for the safe return of the Rohingya muslims who had fled the country because of fear of death during the Rohingyan genocide.
