Her name is Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya and she is 67 years old. She will be running for the Thai Raksa Chart Party (Thai Save The Nation). She will be running against current Prime Minister who has military backing Prayut Chan-o-Cha. The Thai Raksa Chart Party says that they chose the Princess as their candidate because she has the experience and knowledge.

I think the Princess being chosen as a candidate for Prime Minister is a smart move for the political party. This is because the public might see a former Princess as a better choice than a militant backed current prime minister. The princess becoming a candidate in Thailand is something that is unheard of for the past 86 years. Royal family members often stay neutral in political affairs, so it’ll be interesting to see how this affects the people of Thailand and how they view the royal family. The princess has been very active in the community since she returned to Thailand in 2001, she has started many charities and non-profit organizations. She also been working as a representative for the Thai tourism authority, which could help aid in bringing more tourism to the country. If Rajakanya becomes Prime Minister, it would be a blow to the pro-military parties and group because they would no longer have the leverage of having a military backed Prime Minister.

This would be a good change for Thailand, this is because the military currently has a strong say in the government and even drafted a military constitution in 2017. If Rajakanya became Prime Minister, the importance placed on the military would decrease and then other problems in the country would be given more attention.

In Thailand one of the political parties has nominated the kings sister for Prime Minister for the upcoming elections in March.
