The new penal code would replace a Dutch colonial-era set of laws which would help Indonesia express their overdue independence. Indonesia is the most populated country with a Muslim majority which leads into why they are trying to pass the law even more; they want to prioritize and their religion and make their ideology and belief\/connection with God greater. Over one million Indonesians will be affected by this law that is coming into place, and if they’re caught and penalized with a fine it could be a maximum of 10 million rupiah ($710) which is about three months worth of paychecks for most. Under these arranged laws, an unmarried couple who live together as husband and wife can also be criminally penalized with up to six months in jail. I can see both sides of the people; in one stance, it is violating people’s’ freedoms and could potentially install unneeded fear into their citizens. At the same time, they are wanting to implement this law into their society to make their religious beliefs stronger and define their independence in a more concrete way. The Muslim faith is more strict and their followers abide by the rules more and better than other religions may, so it certain aspects it may be just the way most were living. Overall, from my point of view, I feel like it is limiting their citizens freedoms and it will cause unnecessary commotion or conflict between the government and its people. Although it may be immoral, it doesn’t mean that it is unlawful. There is a line between moral laws and actual laws and I feel like the government is blending them into one. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
In Indonesia they are in the process of passing a law where having consensual sexual relations outside ones marriage will result in criminalized punishment.
