With the pick of East Asia and\u00a0Oceania\u00a0I was excited to get a\u00a0reasonably\u00a0stable area in comparison to our last two picks of Africa and the Middle East. I am not complaining\u00a0i am unhappy with the two choices I am attempting to say reporting on some of the many atrocities got very\u00a0emotionally\u00a0exhausting. Like every new region I\u00a0receive\u00a0I am looking\u00a0forward\u00a0to\u00a0researching\u00a0it with an open mind. One of the stories that stood out to me immediately was the\u00a0Turnbull\u00a0Trump exchange. This stood out\u00a0primarily\u00a0because I had no idea the\u00a0Australian\u00a0government would take in refugees to just put them on off shore islands. I am confused why they wouldn’t just not allow them to come at all if all they were going to do was put them somewhere else. If a foreign government isolated a group of refugees from entering their mainland country then why should the United States take a risk of allowing those people onto their mainland when Australia did not? Another story that I found important was the article of “Mad Dog” Mattis going to South Korea to meet with\u00a0Korean\u00a0and\u00a0Japanese\u00a0leaders\u00a0to\u00a0reassure\u00a0alliances. One of the points brought up was a potential missile\u00a0defense\u00a0system for South Korea. I believe this to be a great idea because it is time Korea started learning to\u00a0defend\u00a0its self instead the united states sinking a ton of money into another country’s defense. A defense system being made reminded many people of when President Trump stated that the United States could save money if nations like South Korea and Japan developed their own nuclear weapons. This did not come up in the visit thankfully but I strongly doubt Mattis would even bring up something outlandish to the top leaders. Hopefully that statement made trump is one that can stay in the past and won’t come up in of his executive orders. To encourage a country whose main enemy is know for trying to\u00a0develop\u00a0nuclear\u00a0missiles to also\u00a0develop\u00a0nuclear\u00a0missiles\u00a0would be\u00a0completely\u00a0ludicrous.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
