At a recent symposium, Chinese state counselor and foreign minister Wang Yi stated that nations should not be divided by oceans, rather united for the long run through a maritime community that benefit one another. He wanted to also address maritime issues within recent years and that they can be worked on through cooperation of the international community. The article also talks about China’s history and how they have history to back up their maritime community philosophy as they have never had problems and have spread friendships through the oceans rather than problems.

This article is important because it shows the way China wants to handle issues regarding control over the ocean. They believe that not one nation should be in complete control over the ocean, but rather multiple nations working in harmony throughout it. This is something worth noting because some nations may believe that China would rather isolate themselves while this isn’t the case and the other nations need to recognize this fact so that they can all work together. A maritime community could have many benefits such as helping the flow of trade and less motive for conflict in the ocean.

This article relates to what we discuss in class through the topic of collective goods because some nations believe that they should be the only ones to control what goes on in the body of water next to them while others believe that it’d be beneficial for multiple nations to share the body of water. While each side may have its pros and cons, the scenario of sharing the body of water between nations would probably be more beneficial to all thing involved if an agreement could be reached to share it.

http://www.news.cn/english/2021-11/09/c_1310300760.htm This article talks about China wanting to resolve maritime issues and the importance of making sure that the maritime laws between nations are equitable towards everyone.
