The U.S., Canada, and the U.K. have all imposed multiple sanctions on China, Myanmar, and North Korea. All of these sanctions are for similar issues: to uphold Western values that promoting peace and spreading democracy is key in combating many human rights issues. The sanctions imposed on China were mainly to prevent the continuation of the Uyghur genocide as a new software system made by a Chinese artificial intelligence company called “sensetime,” is able to use facial recognition to determine ones ethnicity. The Myanmar Military’s also facing sanctions from both the US and the U.K. due to an organization that provides reserves for the military. Meanwhile North Korea continues to sek the lifting of US sanctions, and North Korea continues to denounce US criticism of its human rights record. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I think this article is important because it discusses the genocide and violence faced by Uyghur people in China. The tragedy that took place on 9\/11 not only affected the view many Americans had on Muslims but also the way the Chinese Communist party views Muslims. The Uyghur population being a Muslim minority in the Xinjiang province have come to face extreme violence from the Chinese Government. The new software developed from the SenseTime company in China poses a great threat to Uyghur people, and if something isn’t done about this then millions of more Uyghur people face a threat from the Chinese Government as over a million Uyghur people are already detained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This article relates to the most recent article read in class regarding the support for either Off-shore balancing or liberal hegemony and the pros and cons of both methods. In this case, the Biden administrations main approach to foreign relations regarding China is more of a Liberal approach as they are involving the US deeply in concerning itself with human rights issues within China. A positive of this approach is the fact that the US is defending its key ideals of promoting peace everywhere and spreading democracy. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
