Four years after Kim Jung Un declared North Korea’s Nuclear testing sites closed by destroying the tunnels with press watching. With the pause in talks with the United States, North Korea has expanded their military capabilities. This includes 9 rounds of missile launches just in 2022. The fast pace the Kim Jung Un has set seems to be a strategy to pressure the Biden Administration. Experts have said that Kim is using an old playbook to try and sway the US in forgiving some of the heavy weighted sanctions on the state. Maxar technologies was the first to report the construction at the site (Punggye-ri). South Korean analysts believe that nuclear testing could come in the coming months, to try and move the US’s notice to them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I believe that if it is true that the testing sites are open again, we, as in the United States, should keep a close watch on the situation. With the increase in missile testing it seems from a civilian standpoint that North Korea is trying something new. It may be like the article said and actually just a scare tactic to the biden administration. Or just a show of intimidation and power by the North Korean government to show the world that they mean business. Also if the demolition of the tunnels were faked or were just immediately started to rebuild could cause even more media distrust in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This relates to international relations because it is in North Korea’s national interest. The country itself wants to look more powerful to the international community. Most of the countries that are not allied with North Korea, either look down on them or don’t take them as seriously as the country would want them to be. It’s also a stronger tactic to show its allies that it is serious and can handle themselves and help in the international system. If the tactic being used is to get Biden to lessen sanctions, it is more than likely that it will not work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
