An independent UN member also said that they should start a coalition together similar to Russia invading Ukraine and put pressure on Myanmar´s military leaders. Many of the same weapons that are being used against the people in Ukraine are also being used against citizens in Myanmar. Russia has been the largest supplier of weapons in Myanmar when the military coup rose up against their government in 2021. Other 2300 people have been killed since the start of the military coup. The UN says that the international community has not been doing enough against these atrocities and were are all turning a blind eye.

Myanmar has been in a crisis ever since 2021 when the military coup removed their elected government and replaced it with a different one. They have been detaining individuals and cracking down on any sort of dissent from the government through violent means. The UN has been unsure whether to place sanctions considering China and Russia have been backing them. Military coups can occur in countries with unstable political policy and the people want a change in their structure of government. This has lead to massive amounts of violence and hostility and has divided the citizens other these issues. Its a shame to see so many unnecessary civilian lives lost and that there really is nothing much we can do about it. Its best to educate ourselves on these topics and realize how immensely good we have in the U.S to not have these kinds of issues.

The military coup in Myanmar can be explained through the idea of balance of power. The country kept going through periods of autocracy and democracy, and faced tons of political turmoil and economic downturn. Myanmar has been declared in a state of emergency since 2021. On February 2, 2021, many healthcare and civil service workers launched a national disobedience movement in response to the coup. This included labor strikes, protests, a military boycott, and even a pot-banging movement. On February 20 , two people were shot and many more were injured during a protest of the military. This represents the extreme dissent of the people and a repeating cycle of chaos and destruction in the country, and will most likely continue to be unstable for years to come.

Link to article: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/10/27/ukraine-type-approach-required-for-myanmars-military-un-expert The UN has just called for the sanctioning of Myanmar after Russian weapons were being used against the people of Myanmar.
