Amid food shortages and other things like sanctions, extreme weather, and covid wrecking trade north korea has emphasized not taking any foreign aid. A paper in Korea has said “It is a mistake to try to boost the economy by accepting and eating this poisoned candy,” and talked about how accepting any aid would lead to North Korea being taken over. Due to this famine and general economic tanking many have died or starved with one report saying that 700 korean prisoners have died from starvation and north korea crop has decreased by 3.8%. which doesn’t sound like a lot but this is millions of tonnes so it’s a large difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As North Korea continues to isolate itself with incompetent governing and new threats of nuclear war every week it has severely weakened. North Korea already had few alliances and covid which made trading with China difficult didn’t help and considering the sanctions put on North Korea by many countries again due to the threats of war and fascism in their government it’s no surprise. I bet this will only get worse and worse and eventually North Korea is going to have to accept aid in some form though they will spin it in different ways. Now who they’ll get aid from I’ve no clue maybe China but again who knows if China would want to get involved. All in all I just think again this is a good showcase for North Korea’s government’s incompetence. I understand not wanting a lot of foreign aid, as thomas Sankara said \u00b4\u00b4He who feeds you controls you\u00b4\u00b4 and it’s true that nations have use aid as a way to gain tons of influence in a country but north korea has next to no diehard allies due to their governments inability to use diplomacy and not planning around weather affecting crops and so this will only get worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relating this back to something we’ve talked about in class is how important how a government is run. If you have a leader with delusions of grandeur whose solution to any problem is to threaten to nuke the world or silence the media , your country isn’t run the best. There’s little to gain from allying with North Korea as shown by the foreign countries and institutions that have not chosen to interact with them and North Korea’s inability to acknowledge that this is a bad thing. We’ve talked about the balance between focusing on domestic issue and outside ones and north korea has focused on its military and projection and image of greatness instead of actually doing anything\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
