Made with UK designs and US technology, these submarines will have an increased duration of time underwater and will be harder to detect by other submarines. As a result and landmark of the Pacific Security Pact including the US, UK. If this deal goes through, it will be the first time US developed nuclear technologies for nuclear submarines will be exported since the 1960s.The security pact also includes collaboration on hypersonic missiles, artificial intelligence and cyber warfare between the three different states. These advancements and collaborations between the states are seen to be a proactive way to counter China’s growing power.

The strengthening of relations between the three countries through this potential collaboration and exchange represents the advancements the western world is working to gain against China on the global totem pole. This new submarine model could change how maritime military conflicts are conducted. By creating a new form of technology using resources from other countries, it aids in overall discovery and relevance on the international stage. This could also potentially initiate a nuclear arms race not only with China, but also Australia’s Indo-Pacific neighboring states. For example, states like Malaysia and Indonesia who are allies with Australia, may feel the urge to also gain nuclear weapons to also secure their own states.

This relates back to what we discussed in class because it touches on how technological advancements are a big part of a state’s identity in the international world and how technology fuels competition on the global scale.

Link to Article During the 2030s, Australia is to have purchased a possible five nuclear submarines from the United States.
