The team of doctors have provided medical consultations, acupuncture, and other TCM trearments. They have received positive feedback from residents, but mostly from older generations. The Myanmar residents are no stranger to TCM as their feedback revolves around their or a family member’s use of it. The chief physician of the Rehabilitation Department of Fujian Provincial Hospital, Chen Jie, has visited the country before on behalf of a charity TCM clinic. He said, “there is a significant increase in the number of patients seeking TCM services”. The team of Chinese doctors provided TCM healthcare to about 300 people which shows there is a need to keep providing these services. Myanmar is the third country China has visited with this program following Laos and Sri Lanka. China believes it is there right to help these countries, “Our purpose is to take care of overseas Chinese people and to promote the essence of traditional Chinese medicine”.

This action China has taken shows a lot which will help them in the future if not now. It will have a lasting effect because China will remain to be seen as the power in Asia. The smaller countries that are being attended to will have a positive view of China. If China can keep spreading positive influence to smaller countries, there will be no outcome where China goes to war. China will also keep tons of trading partners and stay as a power in Asia due to the amount of materials that will be imported. This charitable medical clinic is similar to what China has done in the past few months by sharing medical knowledge with countries like Indonesia through a humanitarian exercise. You can see a pattern China is taking where they are trying to keep a positive relationship with states closer to them.

We have learned about NGO’s in class which relates to the free clinics that are being provided in Myanmar. A NGO is a private non profit organization that seeks to help problems around the world whether it is humanitarian issues or political. The team of doctors giving out the TCM treatment would be considered as a operational NGO in the fact that they are doing this for free and to help people that need assistance.

Link To Article: https://english.news.cn/asiapacific/20231003/c9fc70b5d5914f5c996e762129819301/c.html Myanmar residents are starting to receive more free Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment from a team of doctors at a clinic in the country.
