These concerns have been furthered by the United States’ choosing to continue flying the planes over Japan’s soil. Following the crash, Tokyo called on Washington to suspend Osprey flights, except for search and rescue purposes, until safety concerns are properly addressed. Japan has even demanded better operations by the United States at their military bases in the allied country. There are worries that poor handling and a lack of communication and agreement over the situation could erode the support of the alliance.
Given that the U.S. has since continued to fly the Osprey airplanes over Japan, concerns are mounting. This lack of effective communication poses worries to the tight alliance between the two countries. With China’s proximity to Japan and its rapidly expanding military, a deterrence to the Japan-United States alliance would have vast impacts on the region and the outlook at Chinese leverage. The crash itself and Japan’s response at the top level are not the major concern, the fear of the citizens being a the forefront of any potentially impactful problems. Given the two countries’ history, however, a conclusion seems inevitable. The two countries are still in talks and the crash was obviously not intentional, providing little motivation for tensions to rise.
The security threat in this is minimal for both the United States and Japan, but on an extremely minor scale, there is such a threat to both states. For the United States, the current state of disagreement poses a potential threat if it carries over to a deterioration of the alliance, which increases Chinese power. China having more of an upper hand poses a security threat due to our opposition to them politically, their aggressive nature, and their growing military. For Japan, the threat of U.S. negligence to the issue and capability for more is aimed at the security of Japanese citizens. Both countries are approaching this issue unilaterally and cooperatively due to the small scope. A solution is almost certain, and the expansion of the problem will only be caused by a lack of communication.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Link to article: https:\/\/japantoday.com\/category\/politics\/Fears-grow-Japan-U.S.-alliance-may-be-affected-by-Osprey-crash Late last month a fatal crash of a U.S. military Osprey airplane occurred in Japan, reigniting safety concerns among Japanese citizens.
