This has been the first time since he was inaugurated as prime minister of Timor-Leste that Xanana Gusmao has visited the Indonesian presidential palace. Indonesian President Joko Widodo has announced that the two neighboring countries have come to an agreement to reactivate the joint-border committee to manage border issues and have also signed a memorandum of understanding in regards to the concern of information technology.

This article is very interesting as it is discussing two countries in Southeast Asia coming to an agreement in order to help strengthen relations for the future. This kind of cooperation could be beneficial for Indonesia and Timor-Leste since they both share the island of Timor. This agreement could also strengthen the independence of Timor-Leste and ease tensions with Indonesia since they annexed Timor-Leste in 1975. Indonesia and Timor-Leste established diplomatic relations with each other in 2002 and the new agreements could help control the amount of people who cross the border between the two countries and help to strengthen and balance the economy, helping the two countries come to an understanding.

In International Relations, we have discussed sovereignty, where a state has independent control from internal affairs and foreign policy usually accompanied with international recognition. East Timor has worked hard to restore its sovereignty and gained independence from Indonesia and from the Portuguese since 2002 and the recent cooperation with Indonesia could help to strengthen its international recognition. We have also discussed the Liberal Theory, where the chances of conflict and instability between states can be reduced through cooperation to expand democracy and free trade to achieve peace. The cooperation between Indonesia and Timor-Leste could help strengthen democracy, improve the economy and free trade, and establish peace between the two countries.

https://english.news.cn/asiapacific/20240126/74bde352e7924ca1a680374294b9d814/c.html According to this article, the leaders of Indonesia and Timor-Leste have met at the presidential palace in Bogor in the West Java Province to discuss strengthening relations and cooperation in regard to cross-border, the economy, investment and information technology.
