NATO and the EU press China to help stop North Korea’s support for the war on Ukraine | AP News<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NATO and the EU are working to persuade China to use its influence and connections with North Korea to convince them to stop all military support for Russia. China and North Korea’s relationship has proven to be tight, and with China’s past plans to promote peace, they should use their leverage with North Korea to promote the end of all military participation between the two countries. Intelligence and surveillance agencies have found the possibility of 12,00 North Korean troops supporting Russian forces in exchange for Missile technology given to North Korea in return. NATO has expressed that this trade will continue to threaten global security, effecting countries in Europe, and other allies like Japan, South Korea and the US. In response, the EU has begun security pacts with Japan and South Korea, as the current geopolitical state continues to heat up and grow as a threat. China has shown to be uninterested in an Anti-Western alliance with the two countries due to economic reasons, so leaders are relying on China to put regional stability first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

China has held close ties to both Russia and North Korea, and with the history behind China and North Korea’s relationship, they have the power to sway their decision to provide military support to Russia. If China\u2019s main goal is to promote peace between Ukraine and Russia, this is the perfect opportunity for them to intervene and prove their real goals. The cooperation of NATO, the EU, South Korea, and Japan together shows the clear international fear about an escalating alliance between the two countries.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU and NATO should continue to place soft pressure on China to influence North Korea to stop their support of Russia. They should also continue to strengthen security ties with other allies including Japan and South Korea, as all global security is threatened. On the other hand, it’s in China’s diplomatic and economic interest to promote stability and peace by communicating which their North Korean allies. Other regional allies like Japan and South Korea can help difluence its decision to participate by following economic sanctions, helping defense measures, supporting Ukraine through aid, and continue cooperations with NATO\u00a0to enhance intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As revisionist states, Russia and North Korea will continue to maximize its territorial, technological, and military power to grow rank in the international system. China on the other hand, doesn’t necessarily support the aggression towards Ukraine and promotes peace plans, but the question is if they will follow through.\u00a0 I think that it’s in China’s national interest to sway North Korea away from military action. China holds economic ties with many European and Western powers.
