While the US officially adheres to the One-China policy, it has continued to supply arms to the island and engage in military cooperation with the government in Taiwan. China has repeatedly condemned US arms sales to Taiwan as destabilizing and provocative. In response, China has conducted frequent naval and aerial drills around the island.

This article is important because it shows how Donald Trump is doubling down on his plans to combat China’s power in East Asia. Trump has been talking about how he wanted to fight China’s economic power in the world and he has begun to work on delivering on his promises. It also helps to strengthen the relations between the United States of America and Taiwan, which is vital to the United States maintaining dominance in the region.

This connects to what we learned in class because it shows how countries utilize geography to project their power internationally. In this example the United States is helping a friendly country by delivering weapons to them in order to create a powerful satellite at China’s doorstep, to keep China in check. This article also relates to what we learned in class because it exhibits the idea of reciprocity, in that the United States is doing things for Taiwan because Taiwan is being useful to us by being an ally that is close to China.

Link to article: https://www.rt.com/news/610933-trump-taiwan-weapon-deliveries/ Speaking at the US Institute of Peace in Washington on Tuesday, Mike Waltz, a Florida Congressman, stated: “We have over a $20 billion backlog of things that they paid for and that we need to work hard to free up and have them get what they paid for as a deterrent measure,” referring to US president-elect Donald… Read more »

[1

post-6389","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-analysis
["GET
