It is estimated that if this casualty rate keeps up, all of the 12,000 North Korea troops will be gone in three months. According to the Institute for the Study of War, North Korea has been experiencing around 92 casualties per day since early december of 2024. If this rate keeps up, all of the North Korean troops would be killed or wounded by April 2025. President Zelenskyy has reported that around 3,800 North Korean soldiers have been either killed or wounded. The United States and South Korean intelligence can also back this up due to the fact that they are also reporting heavy losses, including 1,000 North Korean casualties in the first week of significant combat in December. The major contribution of the losses is the fact that North Korean forces have been conducting mass assaults on Ukrainian positions.

This article is important because it gives insight into the North Korean Involvement in the Ukraine War and highlights Global Security Concerns. This article provides information about North Korea’s participation in the conflict that is going on in Ukraine and it hasn’t been discussed very much in the mainstream media. It also discusses the geopolitical dynamics like alliances and military support between North Korea and Russia. North Korea’s involvement in Ukraine has raised some security concerns about the escalation of the conflict. It also highlights the role of the smaller and less discussed countries such as North Korea getting involved in conflict of such a large scale.

The major stakeholders involved are North Korea and Russia. North Korea might be trying to seek military or economical support from Russia, they might also want to assert its presence in global conflicts so they sent troops to Ukraine to fight along side the Russians. This was most likely done because North Korea wants to strengthen their alliance with Russia and gain influence in international geopolitics. It has also been reported that Russia did get North Korea involved to try and strengthen their military power. It is believed that Russia is coordinating and using these troops to fill in for the strength and man power that they have lost.

Some major terms that are discussed are Casualty rate and Combat Participation. Casualty rate is what is used to measure the amount of solders that are wounded or killed. The article highlights that North Korea’s casualty rate is extremely high with around 92 casualties a day since their involvement in December 2024. Combat participation is also brought up in the article because of North Korea’s involvement in the conflicts in Ukraine. North Korea is fighting a long side the Russians because Korea wants to strengthen their ties with Russia because they are tired of being viewed as a small powerless country.

link to article: https://www.yahoo.com/news/north-korea-stands-lose-12-061024633.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAIgM7GkqAXRciSC7JUeFAVVqw-ZoXwpAn_i1Ujtm1cSyvdYTBuECO7YRQOHNU5gcYJ5ir_pNnZaCUPhOY0cbDhY-HsHgqNu4McHWo5BqKN_6Qcf4cKu16v2gzrjh3lX-9ysXEvIZmqwAUnXhWgJkn31DawvHIdhQm4qw2OZ0qVTY The North Korean troops who have been deployed in the Kursk region in Ukraine have been experiencing major losses in combat.
