In recent weeks, Chinese officials have put forward a proposal to the Trump team through intermediaries, suggesting a summit between the two leaders and offering to help with peacekeeping efforts following a potential truce, the WSJ reported, citing sources in China and the United States. The Chinese Foreign Ministry also declined to comment on the report, stating only that China is\u00a0\u201cpleased\u201d<\/em>\u00a0to see that Russia and the US are\u00a0\u201cstrengthening ties and intensifying dialogue on a range of international issues.\u201d<\/em> The Kremlin press service has confirmed that Putin invited Trump to visit Moscow, but did not provide a time frame for any potential trip. The US president later indicated that their first meeting would\u00a0take place soon in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is important because it shows how China is still trying to take a leading role in bringing about peace between Russia and the West. It also shows how the United States sees this offer and chose to do the peace talks in Saudi Arabia in order to keep China out. I believe that these decisions reflect a broader strategy by the United States to drive Russia and China apart and form good relations with Russia while attacking China economically. I believe China’s strategy is the opposite, to maintain good relations with both Russia and the United States and maintain their position as economic world leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This relates to what we learned in class because it shows how China understands the United States’ strategy of trying to put a wedge between Russia and China, and is doing what is necessary to maintain good relations with both states. China knows how important Russia is to have as an ally, and is doing what it can to still be apart of any peace negotiations or deal between the two countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
