Washington wants to close loopholes that let Chinese companies keep using U.S. tech for advanced chip manufacturing, even after earlier bans. The U.S. Government is worried that china is gaining an advantage in SI and military tech through there workarounds. This descions could impact alot of industries, from electronic to defense, since global tech supply chains are so connected. Its a part of a bigger pattern, the U.S. trying to slow down Chinas technological growth while protecting its own national security. But critics say these moves could also hurt American tech companies that rely on global sales. On paper this does strenghthen The U.S. security, but it could backfire economically if it cuts off too much international trade and collaboration.

This article stood out to me because it shows how technology has become the new battlefield between major countries. Instead of traditional warfare, countries are now competing over who controls AI, data and chips. I think that the U.S. is doing this because we see China as a long term threat to our technological dominance. What is difficult about this is that the global economy is so interconnected that cutting off China also hurts U.S. businesses. It is a move that makes sense strategically but could have bad results. It could lead to more issues between the U.S. and China or maybe with the way things are going it could start a new kind of cold war, just based off tech instead of weapons.

I think that the U.S. government will likely push forward with these curbs, especially since national security is a top political priority. U.S. tech companies might push back, they could argue that the restrictions on China could limit both their profits and partnerships. China will definitely see this as another attempt to weaken their economy and could retaliate by blocking U.S. companies or by speeding up their own tech development. Other countries like South Korea and Japan might get caught in the middle since they rely on both the U.S. and Chinese tech systems. It is a global domino effect, One country’s restriction will affect everyone else’s supply chains.

This connects to what we’ve learned about power and globalization, especially the idea of economic power as a form of soft power. The U.S. is not using military force, we’re using technology restrictions to control influence. That ties into realism again, where states compete for dominance, but it also connects to dependency theory since both sides rely on each other in the global market. It is a good modern example of how international relations are shifting from territory and weapons to technology and innovation. Power today is not just about armies, it’s about who controls the future of tech and both the U.S. and China are top contenders.

Link to article:https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-considering-curbs-exports-china-made-with-us-software-sources-say-2025-10-22/ This article reports that the U.S. is considering new restrictions on products made in China that use American software or technology.
