With China rapidly growing in the car industry they have been able to significantly lower their prices which makes them a much bigger competitor to rivaling car companies. China has also gained access to the global market for electric cars through gaining approval of using self-driving cars in Germany, Dubai , Singapore and parts of the middle east. However, this does not come without its problems, the article states, because an autonomous car made in China needs to navigate traffic laws, car regulations, and things like road conditions in tons of countries before being able to drive in those new countries.

My take on this article is that it shows how quickly China is progressing in EVs and if other countries do not set limitations on these self-driving cars they will be all over the world. This is important because it can hurt the domestic economies of the countries who China is selling their cars in. China has the opportunity to be the main producer and seller of electric vehicles. The East Asian region will be prospering, increasing the country’s GDP , and producing more jobs for Chinese citizens, however, this new market can tank the economy of gas fueled cars. This is affecting the region since China is making cheaper and better cars than other regions like Japan, pushing them out of the market and implementing mass scale tech for the new cars that make countries more reliant on Chinese vehicles. This is a lasting impact since it establishes China as the main producer for the enormous car industry. I think that the reason China is entering this market is to become a global power, an independent strong country, and separate from Western control. Historically, China and the U.S. have been rivals, especially in technology, this makes China always be willing to take the opportunity to have the upper hand on the U.S. on any kind of market.

Stakeholders involved in China prospering and taking over in the electric vehicle market include China’s government, Chinese EV battery companies, Chinese Tech and automobile workers. All of them would respond positively to China taking over the world in electric vehicle manufacturing. The Chinese government would flood Chinese Tech, automobile, and EV companies with money to continue producing cheaper and better cars which further catapults China into their electric vehicle success and brings back global power to China. This seems like a win-win for Chinese stakeholders but a lose-lose for any stakeholders in different countries electric vehicle companies.

In class we discussed state sovereignty, and this article directly shows how dominating a market in electric vehicles expands China’s sovereignty since instead of having to rely on other countries for its prosperity China can protect it’s countries freedoms and do so without being interfered by other countries since they control the market and can make decisions for themselves.

Economic Watch: China’s Smart-driving firms seek place in global cars Link to Article: https://english.news.cn/20260828/e32311cccdd24e669a7acc754f929756/c.html This article is about how China is advancing in the electric vehicle market.
