Japan has formally protested against China for imposing anti-dumping measures on dichlorosilane, a major chemical that is used for semiconductor production which Japan produces the most of. The controls set by China will limit exports of the chemical claimed by Japan and companies that import it must provide cash depots to China’s custom’s with rates up to 99.2%. Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary, Minoru Kihara, said that Tokyo would “respond appropriately” to avoid unfair harm to companies. However, China claims Japanese exporters are violating anti-dumping laws and harming China’s personal industry in chip manufacturing. This action is after a serious of increasing tensions after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said that Japan might intervene if China tried to use force against Taiwan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This article is important because it highlights the growing tensions in Southeast Asia and the regions near, the increase in reliance China has on itself for technology as well as chemical production, and the importance and competition surrounding Dichlorosilane. This means for the region an increase in tensions and distance from China and the surrounding states to avoid trade restrictions as well as limiting exports on their own. My opinions on this are that China is claiming to impose this due to dumping but is also invoking this to avoid tariffs and sanctions which it wants to not bring attention to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Japanese companies and stakeholders might respond to this by increasing Dichlorosilane exports to the neighboring states of China like Taiwan, South Korea, as well as the general West like North America and the United States. The Japanese government might respond to this by escalating this restriction and bringing it to a national organization or try to find more partners with more security. China might respond to this by lifting the restriction based off of the Japanese response or keep it and develop production of Dichlorosilane to become more self reliant. Chinese manufacturers will receive a spike in cost and a lack of supply to meet the demand. Because of this, they will increase the production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is connected to class as it relates to the issues states face, economic competition on the global market. China seems to have focused on producing and becoming self sufficient instead of having to rely on imports from Japan, which has been hurt by the economic loss from the market in China being narrowed. This post also relates to multinational corporations and the impact of this measure, primarily in global chip manufacturers. These manufacturers in China have to look for different chips or to take the steep 99.2% tariff which would slow production of these chips. This further entails these corporations to also look for alternative producers of Dichlorosilane within the region surrounding China.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
