While this was originally a short-term plan, the construction of the pipeline has turned into a long term plan to cut down carbon emissions between France, Spain and Portugal and will cost the EU a total of 10 Billion euros. This pipeline will be used to transport green hydrogen, a renewable that is made using a process called electrolysis, and other renewable gases. However, France striked down the proposal of a 2023 finish date over concerns on environmental damages. The current completion date is roughly 2030, and more information will be released to the public in December.

This has probably been one of the only articles that has been good news so far this year. I don’t like climate change, nobody does, and seeing more countries publicly take action and promote a better, cleaner world, is very nice to see. While in the article they do talk about future plans to create a bigger power grid with this new renewable energy, I don’t know how practical or successful they will be. Especially because right now is all talk, and not a lot of physical action is being done. It’s much easier to talk than do, but I’m hoping that everything will figure itself out and the world will be better for it.

This article is related to class because these countries are inside my assigned geographical region.

Article: https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2022/11/04/new-pipeline-between-france-and-spain-unlikely-to-solve-energy-problems-experts-say There has been an agreement between France and Spain on the construction of an underground gas pipeline connecting the cities of Barcelona and Marseille, in an effort to decrease the strain of the current energy crisis.
