President Volodymyr Zelensky said the strikes, which damaged more than a dozen civilian facilities, showed Russia was escalating terror rather than pursuing peace. The hardest-hit regions included Odessa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv, with widespread power outages, water shortages, fires at port and grain storage facilities, and multiple civilian injuries. Ukraine’s largest energy provider, DTEK, reported damage to 20 substations in Odessa alone.

The attacks come ahead of renewed diplomatic efforts, as US special envoy Steve Witkoff prepares to meet Ukrainian and European leaders in Berlin to discuss a US-backed peace plan. Key disagreements remain, with the US emphasizing territorial issues while Ukraine and Europe insist on security guarantees.

Meanwhile, Ukraine reported rare battlefield successes, including a counterattack in the Kharkiv region, where Ukrainian forces claim to have retaken Kupiansk and inflicted heavy Russian losses, challenging Moscow’s narrative of imminent Ukrainian collapse. As of currently ,Russia is not agreeing to propose a peace deal and will have no fault of military action and that it will continue as is. Russia has opposed any compromise with Ukraine.

This article highlights the damage being created from the war in Ukraine. There have been more than 450 drone actions and 30 missiles struck civilian infrastructure and energy buildings leaving over one million without power or electricity which is causing domestic panic. This damage to power and civilian infrastructure are worsening the Ukraine situation with the war urge then to now possibly use Russia frozen assets and continue to push for peace and compromise despite Russia’s stance of contoured war effort. This ongoing war and destruction is and will continue to worsen relations between Russia and Ukraine.

Russia is becoming more aggressive as war and the push for peace and compromise continues, because Russia is getting further from what they want and what they are aiming for. Russia has power, security, and geographic advantage. Due to Putin’s aggression Ukraine is worried about tensions and terror worsening, causing them to push peace deal efforts.

Link to article- https://www.cnn.com/2025/12/13/europe/ukraine-energy-blackouts-intl article 1 Ukraine faced one of its most intense nights of Russian attacks as more than 450 drones and 30 missiles struck energy and civilian infrastructure across the country, leaving over one million households without electricity.
