In the simulation, I was the secretary and treasurer. I took notes of all deals, agreements, comments, and points that all of the countries made that could be significant. I felt pretty prepared for the simulation after reading my role in it. I knew that there was going to be dominant countries and we would have to find a way to work with them. My group did accomplish what we wanted as we achieved our goal of collecting over two billion dollars for medical aid, food and water, shelter, and more. We were also able to work out deals among other countries to solve the crisis quicker. I enjoyed every part of the simulation but more specifically informal negotiations. I liked going around the room and trying to work things out with the other countries, even when we didn’t get a deal that we wanted. I think I struggled the most with talking during the simulation. I don’t like talking in front of people and was nervous about that. And while I didn’t talk during formal negotiations, I did talk quite a lot during informal negotiations when Mariel and I were negotiating. I feel that the amount of information given at the beginning of the simulation could be changed. By that I mean that some of the groups weren’t given enough information such as they didn’t know how much money that had, didn’t know what their economy was currently like, didn’t know how much money they could spend, and some details that were given were a little vague. Overall, I learned that negotiating among countries to fix world problems can be very difficult. I now know the little details that can change and entire deal like the name that something is called. And I know just how hard it can be to come to a full agreement.
