After the blasts that hit Palestinian Prime Minister’s convoy this morning, Hamas has been under fire by a number of PA officials blaming them for the attack. I was surprised that PA wouldn’t have blamed Israel for the incident, and immediately jumped to blaming Hamas. This shows how divided the Palestinians really are. Officials on the scene have been speculating about the time and type of attack that took place and how it might shed some light on who was really responsible. Since Hamdallah was unharmed in this attack, many think it could have been extremists within the Hamas group sending a message. Some people within the Hamas militant group have been against the peace talks taking place between Palestinian Prime Minister and leaders of Hamas.
After the incident, Hamdallah continued into Gaza and the peace talks, perhaps sending a message of his own to the radicals within the Hamas group. The talks took place amid an already tense standoff between the two groups, making it even more unlikely that any type of solutions could be worked out. The Gaza strip is currently turning into a humanitarian crisis, and without the full cooperation of both groups, many will continue to suffer.
