After hearing about the Khashoggi constantly for almost all of October and November in international news I was somewhat shocked how quickly and quietly the whole incident.. disappeared. There was no conclusion to what happened. His body was never found and it seems like all those reports put out against the Saudi Government were never actually seen. So I find it interesting now that the Saudi Government is planning on making the trial private rather than public. This made international news and was talked about world wide and it’s as if they can get away with sweeping this situation under the rug. The CIA apparently came to the conclusion that Saudi Prince, Mohammed Bin Salman, ordered the killing. Which of course officials in Saudi Arabia deny- so it makes me wonder, why isn’t there still backlash by the international community. Will the people on trial actually get punished? Who knows because it is a private trial and frankly the government could just make an act of it if they needed to. However we see this on smaller scales all around the world, the public not getting access to reports or cases that should be public rather than private knowledge. A great example of this in the United States right now is the Mueller Report. Frankly that should be public knowledge, the people deserve the right to know what is going on in their government rather than let things be swept under the rug because of some tweets. I think this case and the mueller report show how little people really know about their government, which is somewhat scary to be frank. People have zero idea what the government knows about them or collects data on and people also have no idea what is actually going on in the government and around the world besides what is on mainstream news. Understandably there are things that need to be hidden or kept secret for public safety but it does impress upon us how much we know and don’t know about what’s happening around us.
