President Trump’s new Middle East Peace Plan is not going to create peace like it is supposed to, according to officials. The United States is continuing to support Israel and officials are expecting Palestinians to experience more trouble than they already are. The main points of the plan include drawing different borders, recognizing Palestine, and setting up different security measures. The new security measures are in favor of Israel and state that is maintains security control over the new proposed state of Palestine. It will be able to control the area and then it will be able to make sure Palestinians do not become threatening to Israel.
The proposed plan also allows Israel to maintain the land/settlements that many international powers view as illegal under international law. Jerusalem would be Israel’s capital under the new plan proposed by President Trump. The Jordan Valley would remain under control of Israel and the Palestinian state would be allowed to use Isralei ports. Overall, the plan would create the Palestinian state to include the West Bank and Gaza. Since these two sections of land are far apart, they would be connected by a tunnel.
The response to the Middle East Peace Plan is varied from country to country. Palestinian leadership has voiced their opposition to the plan and have called for massive protests after the plan’s release. President Trump’s actions have exaggerated the tensions between the leaders. The U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), has expressed concern about the new plan and how Palestinian refugees will be treated. They state part of the plan that states Palestinian refugees will not be allowed back in Israel will cause violence. The UNRWA also says that this right is in international law.
If this plan is accepted within the next four years, I agree with the U.N. agency and believe that it will cause violence that could be avoided. Palestine, one of the main bodies of people involved in this plan, does not want it to be enacted so I believe that it will not happen unless illegal actions are made.
