Four people were killed last weekend in the resort town of Sousse when three Islamic militants rammed their car in security officers and attacked them with knives, killing one and injuring the other. Another man, Aymen Rezgui, walked onto the beach of the Imperial Hotel and used an assault rifle to shoot at tourists in lounge chairs. Then, he continued onto the resort before throwing a grenade into the hotel. In the end, one officer was killed along with three assailants. Five years ago in this same place occured Tunisia´s deadliest extremist attack, when a massacre killed 38 people, many of them being British tourists.
The attacks in 2015 had a heavy blow to Tunisia´s economy as their tourism pillar is one of their biggest sources of success and economic income. The most recent attacks will most likely have an effect on Tunisia´s tourism as well which means the cost of items will be priced a lot higher in order for big businesses and their economy to stay in place. Many people that live in poverty were quite possibly highly affected by the attacks in 2015 and will likely struggle now after the most recent attacks. This will have a lasting impact on Tunisia´s tourism as the numbers will decline in the future and they will become less known as a big tourist destination receiving less visitors and less money.
Tunisia will suffer a great blow from these attacks and they will have to make some major protective changes in order for their tourists to feel safe when staying. Their civilians may have to pay more money in taxes in order to pay for the reparations to the resort, which will make their work hours go up as their income could quite possibly be lowered due to these events. Tunisia will begin to see their tourism rates lower significantly and have to order in a form of protection against potential threats for their country.
