On Wednesday, the United States imposed sanctions on companies based in China and the United Arab Emirates. The United States is accusing them of supporting the sale of Iranian petrochemicals as Washington increases its pressure on Tehran. The US Treasury Department put out a statement saying it has blacklisted the four entities for facilitating the export of Iranian petrochemical products by Triliance Petrochemical Co. Ltd, which was hit with sanctions by Washington earlier this year. For the past several weeks, the Trump administration has been imposing sanctions nearly daily over the past several weeks, many targeted at Iran. Analysts think the sanctions pressuring Tehran seem designed to complicate President-elect Joe Biden’s path to renegotiating a nuclear deal with Iran.
This is just worsening the relations between the United States and Iran. Worsening relations that no one wants. This is just going to continue the decades long back and forth terrible relations with Iran and the United States. The United States isn’t going to be happy if they can’t figure out a nuclear deal with Iran because that will always be a threat against the United States. Hopefully these sanctions won’t do too much damage to where Iran and the United States can’t work out a deal in the future. The world will never be safe if there are nuclear weapons constantly being pointed at some place.
Nuclear weapons give nations power and with power you get more control. Iran has a lot of power with their nuclear weapons because they can put it against the United States and other non-allied nations. Hence why the United States wants to work out a nuclear deal with Iran. This could be an example of the Collective Goods Problem because Iran wants nuclear weapons and more territory and the United States does not want Iran to have more territory or nuclear weapons so I’m not sure how they are going to compromise and work things out, but only the future will tell.
