On Monday, an Israeli air raid struck in Gaza the office of the Qatari Red Crescent Society, a Qatar state-affiliated relief organization providing for the welfare of Palestinians. This came only a day following the QRSC announced they would allocate $1m to the relief effort going to the families of Palestinians afflicted by the recent crisis.
The conflict is a bitter and violent crisis manifesting tensions within each group of historic and recent oppression throughout the Levant, inflicting losses of life, liberty, and limb upon thousands of civilians residing in the region.
Qatar has condemned the attack on the QRCS from Israel as a violation of international law, most notably the Geneva Convention of which they are both signatories. Alongside the strike on the QRCS, several other human rights groups criticizing Israel and relief facilities and utilities were damaged by Israeli strikes. The article also mentions the overt strike on the Al-Jala building on Monday which hosted both Al-Jazeera and the Associated Press, doubling down on allegations of intentional and flagrant suppression of media and relief efforts.
This attack on the Qatar relief group assured that Qatar, in its position of bilateral leverage against Israel and Hamas, would not be attempting to arbitrate a ceasefire between the two authorities. Like many others among the Gulf States, Qatar is expressly denouncing Israel’s aggression against Palestine and Levantine Arabs residents of Israeli territory.
