The article goes in-depth about the initial strike on October 7, where Hamas launched thousands of rockets into Israel and was followed by an attack by land, air, and sea. The Israelis have an “iron dome” in place whose purpose is to deflect any missiles heading into their territory but with constant bombardment from the Palestinians, they are still able to penetrate the dome and have critical hits. The Palestinians’ reasoning for these attacks comes from a few reasons one being the increased tensions at the West Bank border which sees a lot of action with some Palestinian deaths from Israeli forces trying to contain the protests and riots. It also goes into the horrors of what it means to be a citizen in any of these countries and how citizens are reacting as well as fleeing the country or bunkering down. This event happened because both sides felt they had a right to that land and they thought the only way to demonstrate that the land was theirs was by force.
This relates to what we have been learning about in class because it looks into studying why countries do the things that they do. You have to go back into the history between these two countries and see how these tensions have been slowly rising for years as incidents have been piling up on both sides for a while now.
